I've been looking into this for a good month now and decided to buy myself a chrismas present. So my Budget is £800 and I'm going to be using it for gaming, video editing and photoshop ect. I do have a few friends giving me a hand but I would like other peoples point of view on what componants to get. I havn't chosen any finals yet but will keep you guys updated!

for 800 bucks you should be able to get the i7 2600K and a nice gfx card (nvidea 560 or 6870)

I'll be getting new hardrive. I've already got a 500gb external HD but I want to get 1TB for the computer itself.
Already got a good screen i'm using at the moment, got speakers mouse and keyboard ect.
I need a copy of windows 7 too which is £80 :/

well you've come to the right place. Plenty of people around here who are willing to help.
First BE AWARE - DO NOT BUY A HDD right now
Floods in Tailand have caused a HUGE shortage in hard drives hence prices are a LOT more expensive then normal. The HDD I'll suggest below is normally £55, at the moment it's £155!! SO wait as long as possible and only when prices are low should you buy, or if you're desperate to get the computer running and don't have a spare HDD atm buy the smallest and cheapest one then wait to get the one you actually wanted when prices drop.
(read here for more info on the HDD shortage
PSU - You can't go wrong with a corsair modular such as the HX750
CPU - I'd go with an Intel Sandy bridge i5. The 2500k which has an unlocked multiplier is the best choice so you can overclock it if you want. The i7-2600k is too much on that budget as it costs £100 more
MOBO - You'll want an asus board, if you're going with an intel CPU get a good Z68 chipset board which is compatible with ivy bridge just in case you wanted to upgrade again next year (beware not all boards are ready for ivy bridge). (look around the £130-150 area so something half decent)
HDD - 2TB Seagate Barracude 6GB/s or equivalent
CPU cooler - The Artic Cooling freezer 13 pro extreme, very good budget CPU cooler.
RAM - Go for 8GB of corsair 1600Mhz (dual channel) the vengeance ram would be my choice
Case - well that's down to personal taste, just get something with good ventilation. I like my Antec 300 and that is the best budget case around.
That hardware all comes to under £600 including a standard DVD drive IF you wait to get the HDD at the correct price.
Graphics - tough one there, currently the best fps per £ is the Nvidia GTX 560ti but in just a few months both AMD and NVidia will have new cards out, so if possible I'd wait for those.
Add on whichever copy of Win7 64 bit you want (you'll need 64bit btw)
All together all that would come in at around £860 including a Case, DVD drive, win7 and based on a current GTX 560ti
But with a little tweaking here and there I'm sure you could get it under the £800 budget.
Hope that is some help.

Re: I'm building my own pc soon! (will need help as i suck)
hmm not bad, but prices seem pretty high from Ebuyer, try checking other retails like OCuk, scan, Aria
£100 for 500GB HDD is crazy, even with these super high prices atm you can get a 1TB for under £80 or 500GB for under £70
A stock GTX 560ti had pretty much the same performance as a stock AMD 6950 in every benchmark but it's also a lot cheap, you can get a good GTX 560ti and overclock it for £150. Like I said, currently the GTX 560ti has the best 'bang for your buck'

Yeah, I really like this HIS ATI Radeon HD 6950 from overclockers. I think i'll be getting it. I won't be doing any overclocking as I'm quite bad at computers anyway let alone doing overclocking hah!
Oh and my friend is now giving me his spare 500GB HDD for free! which is good news. I have a 500GB external HDD too. I can always upgrade at a later date when the prices go down
