SSD?
Well found some good SSD today for OS boot drive its Sata 3 to so Read speeds should be amazing as my mob has Sata 3 in theory?

I recall reading a review of SSDs on a hungarian hardware website. Their tests involved some games, including TF2. It turned out that Team Fortress2 gains a lot of advantage of being used on an SSD. The map load times were less than the half compared to a regular 7200 rpm, SATA-II HDD. And those SSDs were also SATA-II interface ones, so you should be able to get more than noticeable results.
Respawn-times will not be affected tho, you might wanna consider it.

Indeed I also fancy a SSD boot drive, would have got one last month but bought a new DSLR instead
Although I've got my SATA 6GB/s mobo I still think I'll go for a SATA II drive, why you ask?
Because there aren't any SATA III drives out with a sandforce memory controller, and this controller is what allows for 'much' higher write speads than 'all' other SSDs which don't use it.
The one I'll probably get in another 3 weeks is :
Corsair Force 60GB 2.5" SATA-ll Solid State Drive
- Capacity: 60GB
- Controller: SandForce SF-1200
- Maximum Read: 285MB/sec
- Maximum Write: 275MB/sec
- Sustained Write: 250MB/sec
- Max I/O Per Second (IOPS): 50000 IOPS (4KB File)
- NAND Flash: Latest generation Sandforce controller Multi-Level Cell (MLC)

What you really wanna do Aras is get 2 of those SATA III ones and raid 1 them, as that's when you really can take advantage of the extra bandwidth

ssd are not made to be storage units (for that u have 1Tb Hardrives ), its for OS loading times mostly and few apps or few games. go ahead i dare u to buy 256gb ~ 500 gB SSD and store movies on it

Indeed SSDs are solid state storage devices which contain no moving parts, hence they're only held back by their electrical components and are very VERY fast when it comes to random read times.
However NAND flash memory chips (what is at the core of solid state drives) are very expensive still so like Aras just pointed out most people just use them for their OS and one or two core games which they play the most. I'm slightly tempted to put a copy of my steamaps folder onto my SSD when I get it, although at over 30GB on it's own I won't get many other games on there after that However I'd rather not shell out £300 for the 120GB version just to buy something I know will outdated in only a few short months. SSD technology is moving on at an astonishing rate now but I'm afraid it takes suckers like me and Aras to buy 'now' and keep the market moving forward by paying for the research which makes our drives redundant...

I was looking at the 60GB corsair force before, or maybe upto the 120GB corsair force..
but now for just £35 more (£335 total) than the 120GB corsair one I could get the 120GB OCZ PCIe SSD card, yes that's right, a SSD which uses PCIe x4.
It also features 'dual' sandforce memory controllers for crazy fast speeds.

ok, so forget the PCIe card then if it's not got good ratings, I'll just buy two 60GB drives (as I've already decided 60GB just isn't enough) and set up my own raid 0 array which is in terms of the hardware is pretty much the same stuff...
well either do that or just buy the 120GB version if i chicken out and CBA to set up the raid array (even though it'll be faster).
we will see, got 1 week to decide then i want it ordered...
