Oh, hey welcome to the forums pat Have you been playing on the server yet? I wouldn't know, I've been neglecting TF2 this week
In general you can play any class you feel like really. It comes down to personal preference.
I don't know how long you've been playing TF2, but I stick with Soldier most of the time.
In a more coordinated match like this one the only class I'd avoid is the medic, unless you're comfortable as a leader

Welcome, Pat.
For classes, I suggest just trying them all.
Even go for random class choice if you're not sure about playing a certain class and just play what you're given.
and of course, go with classes you enjoy the most, the ones you find the most interesting.
For example, with me it's
Scout: Because of the pace of the game during this time. Lots of speed, jumping, no stopping even for a second, pester and annoy the opposing team.
Sniper: Because I'm not good with direct, up close confrontations and I get to kill people in one hit. Plus I don't have to worry about helping complete the main objective (push cart/cap point/ etc.)
Medic: This is when I want to relax a bit and not have to worry about defending myself as much.
Maybe you figure out what your playstyle is too and base class choices around this.
