BF4 system requirements compaired also to BF3
Post by BATMichael »
BF4:
Minimum is pretty much the same as on BF3 just double of Ram and 10GB more HDD, on recommended double of Ram and just nex generation of each graficcard + 3 GB of V-Ram

If you could get BF4 with a next gen AMD card that would be nice, but I imagine it'd only be on high end cards.
It's also probably a good thing that BF4 is more AMD optimised as the current AMD cards struggle a bit with BF3.

not really 7970 is as fast 680 and 770 , and 7990 is fastest card and can be it's price lower then 780
edit: if you low on video ram overclockers have a deal atm 670 4 gig for 199£ free delivery.

haha, Aras.
My point wasn't to do with price, you're perfectly correct there. What I meant was that relative to other games, in BF3 the Nvidia cards are getting more fps than usual. Similarly in Hitman Absolution which is so optimised for AMD that your 7950 boost gets more fps than a GTX 770.
I don't need any more Vram atm, I upgraded to a GTX 760 a few months ago. However that ASUS GTX 670 is a damn good price for anyone who needs an upgrade.

Well unlike BF3 which was heavy on your GPU and not so much on your CPU, BF4 beta is still pretty heavy on your GPU but is also very heavy on your CPU usage.
I've been meaning to upgrade mine for months but now I have a good reason to. My old i5 @ 3.8GHz just doesn't cut the mustard and is a massive bottleneck in BF4.
If you've not played it yet and were looking forward to playing it on ultra settings, then I hope you've got a good CPU.

well then im fucked with my c64 then
I will play in slow mo and i HOPE that the planes now only have one wing so i have a chance against the raping Topher
But looking forward to all having a game together again

Re: BF4 system requirements compaired also to BF3
well after some more research online it sounds like everyone is having problems atm, people with 4770k and GTX 780 can't even run this game properly.
Both me and Aras get the same low FPS whether running with everything on low or high, something isn't right there.
Hopefully they'll fix the problems soon or I'll be forced to cancel my pre-order before the launch at the end of the month.

Got also low FPS with i7 950 @ 3.5GHz, GTX590 3GB Vram 12GB Ram (Brothers PC)
and also my system with 4770K and GTX770 2GB Vram and 16GB Ram...
The statement from EA/DICE is, that the beta is only to test their server and finding bugs...it is not a demo of the game and the beta is already behind the state of the current version of the maingame... also your stats get reset on the game release.

Re: BF4 system requirements compaired also to BF3
Well I've upgraded my CPU (4770k) and still getting issues, but I think I've figured out why. As many people online (and VinylFresh) have pointed out, BF4 was specifically designed around win8 and DX11.1. For the final release of course they'll fix the optimisation so it'll work smoothly with win7 too, but for now with the Beta you'll get issues as long as you use win7 like me. A good CPU helps a lot as this is one of the first games I've played which can really use an 8 thread CPU. However I still get fps drop for no apparent reason, when I stare at the ground for instance. Also I now get more fps running on ultra than using all low settings.
Only another two and a half weeks until we get the full game, hopefully by then we'll also have some updated GPU drivers for both Nvidia and AMD.

I gonna try to install next week Win8 on my system and then I will see if there is a performance increase on the beta.
Will let you know the result

ok same system as before i7 4770K 16 GB Ram and GTX770 2GB-Vram (Nvidia 331.40 beta drivers). Resolution = 1920 x 1080 tested on a full 64 slot CNQ server
Win7(without BF4 beta patch)
- settings high = 50 - 70FPS sometimes peak-drops down below 40 fps
- settings ultra = 38 - 59 FPS sometimes peak-drops down below 30 fps
Win8(with BF4 beta patch)
- settings on high = 68 -100 FPS no peak-drops!
- Settings on ultra = 50 - 75 FPS no peak-drops!
cant tell you what was the improvement from Beta patch or Win8 alone, since I did not notice before, that there was a patch as I installed win8.
but combo made a big improvement for me

Re: BF4 system requirements compaired also to BF3
We use DX11.1, there are some optimizations in it (constant buffer offsets, dynamic buffers as SRVs) that we got in to the API that improves CPU performance in our rendering when one runs with DX11.1. This will be in BF4. Johan Andersson stated.
need microsoft to patch windows 7 basically with 11.1 dx, thats why it runs better on win 8, not sure how but even if the gpu is not dx11.1 the dx11.1 makes cpu performance on bf4 better, but i hate metro on windows 8 , you can use startisback , also windows8.1 has start button but its not real start or something.
Michael try unparking the cores and run benchmark on win7 again see if it makes the diference.

Re: BF4 system requirements compaired also to BF3
Just as I said Michael, it's win8 with DX11.1. The optimisations Aras mentioned have really been fully utilised in the Beta. However DICE will have to correct the optimisation so it'll run smooth on win7 for release, otherwise they'd have over half their players raging at them. For the meantime I'm tempted to convert my dual boot to multi boot and include a trial copy of win8 so I can play the Beta properly.
Win7 already has some very limited DX11.1 functionality but that's proving useless. I'm not even sure if it's possible to properly incorporate DX11.1 into win7, just like when people were trying to hack DX10 onto winXP
I think I can see where you're going with that Aras, but I don't think it'll work. During game play I get pretty good utilisation on all 8 threads on my CPU and no core/threads are parking. I even tried disabling hyper-threading as I remembered that during BF3 beta there was some issues which caused problems for all those with HT, that made things even worse.
