Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Pretty annoyed right about now..

As my 3850's Iceq's decided to fry themselfs today..

Was happily playing EQII, ressed after dying, after that the screen went black for a moment then when it reappears.. it looked like a graphics bug. Numbers, lines, colour all over the place. Thought it could be a driver issue. So when I reboot up, I go straight to the bios.. guess what.. the same picture even there. An considering the bios does'nt use drivers to display. BAH!

Even changed monitors, same problem.

On the flip side, they only 6-7 months old, so still under garentee.. but thats still 2-4 weeks without a gaming rig to play TF2/L4D/CSS Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Untill then Ill be out of the servers for a while.. fingers crossed I can find the receipt. Im sure hoping so anyway lol.

Ill go cry some more.. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

I feel sorry for you, but atleast they're under warrenty.

Have you made sure that your PSU is functioning properly? That could be what caused the cards to die.

From what I can tell, everything is working properly other than the cards.

Found the receipt this morning.. so gonna ring them an see where I stand. Hoping they will replace them quickly, otherwise Ill have to find another £160-200 for another crossfire setup.

Fawwles makes a good point though, especially if you built the rig yourself.
Worth checking the power requirements. They might fry again if you simply replace.

Wait, you had at least 2 3850's, and you're only playing TF2/L4D/CSS? Isn't that a bit overkill?

Had a similar issue years ago with a 6600GT.. booted up one day, most the characters were jumbled - I could still boot, but 3D was a bit trickier.. generally resulting in either reboots or the card acting as if it doesn't exist (This all hapenned when the card was just a year old Sad ). Truly screwed up. I don't buy from that manufacturer anymore Wink

Not over kill really, I brought everything for that comp 6 months ago to future proof myself for 1-2 years..

However, I have phoned the company I ordered from (www.scan.co.uk, one of the cheapest sites I know for hardware) Got my RMA number to send them back, fingers crossed they wont take too long to replace them.

Find myself twiddling my thumbs alot of the time.. bored beyond bored. I actually have cravings to play lol.

On the flip side, next week im hoping to build yet another machine with a budget of £250-300. (Just the mobo, cpu, ram an graphics) ..

Any suggestions? I know so far I want another duel-core (Intel) atleast 2.5ghz.

If you have overclocking experience, I would buy a the lowest Wolfdale 45nm C2D processor, get a good heatsink (Artic Freezer 7 Pro is a good one for £20) and overclock it up. More cost effective than buying a high-clocked out the box processor.

Finally got my offer replacement for the previous cards. 1GB Sapphire HD4650 DDR2 PCI-E 2.0 x2.

Admitted, the gpu clock speed is slightly lower, but has double the ram. An is'nt factory overclocked, so should not break as easy (I hope)  Laughing

Got my fingers crossed they here by wednesday or thursday the latest.  Very Happy  Now a happy bunny again.

Does anyone remember that 6800 xx nvidia cards?
That card was a cheap miracle with free extras on it.
I bought it for 90 euros once, with an HUUGE heatsink and fan attached to it. On top of that, the card had many locked parts because they didn't pass the quality assurance test. I unlocked all parts and they all worked.
And then the overclocking commenced because the heatsink and fan were awesome. Never bought such an excellent cheap card before :O
