#2 don't seem to be doing so well at the mo , so just wondered if anyone had any ideas of what to do with it even if we can just get kids on it as some of are income comes from getting peeps on it.

Shame really #2 doesnt get used much, a 24/7 map or rotation of three perhaps such as badwater,upward,frontier would be good to see, i see these maps get played a hell of a lot and 99% of the time are always full, skial servers do this kind of thing. Also mvm, or koth get my votes too see #2 bringing in activity Smile Great idea carlos, other opinions/ideas will follow im sure Very Happy

agree with mig there, but maybe badwater/goldrush/dustbowl - they seem to be played an awful lot on other servers.  also arena worked too on getting people on it - so maybe that would be worth going back to?

In order of personal preference:

1. Get rid of it, lower our monthly costs.
2. Server for trying out new TF2 maps
3. Use it for another type of TF2 game (Saxton/jump/MVM/...)
4. Use it for another game (don't know if this is possible)

I don't really see the point in hosting a trade server tbh.

How much does #2 cost each month? And how much do we get from ads for it? (I realise this probably depends on how many players are on the server).

Can we get any more money from it dependent on the game mode? i.e is it more likely to be used if we configure it for MVM for example.

If it can pay for itself through ads then keep it, otherwise I'd stop it and just keep #1.

#2 is really cheep so no need to get rid of it as we would never get it a cheep as we do again,

and yep dav it is dependent on how many go on the server, so the more we could get on there more cash to spred the cost over all our services, and then maybe get rid of the ads on #1

arena used to do well but that sort of died off saxon done ok for a time as lot of kiddys used to play it.

 dont think the 3 map thing would work as the start up map on #2 is already goldrush and it still stays empty.

If all that are queueing to get onto #1 each night hung out on #2 whilst waiting, traffic might pick up on it?
Maybe a clone of #1 as some don't like payload after payload, and throw in some custom maps on the votes too?

good idea loph, certainly worth a try if all the waiting regs did it, that should get others on. ┬áit is just encouraging them to go on there instead of other servers.........if a few regs hooked up and did it together would be easier than try to do it on their own  Smile

We've tried that a few times over the years and it has never really worked out (and we have far less members these days).

Is there a list anywhere of the most popular servers out there? I would just copy whatever gamemode is topping that. If #2 could be kept constantly full and the revenue from that allowed #1 to drop ads as Carlos suggested, that might be worth considering. Would perhaps mean more player retention for the main server (since there seems to be still a large number who dislike/complain about ads, but don't know about the motd settings).

1. Turn it into whatever the TF2 search engine most favours
2. Two fort type maps
3. 4 payload maps only server
4. ctf only server.
5. Haloween maps


Having it as a waiting area for people to join one doesn't work.

i agree even if we have to keep changing the game mode, just take what the top server is doing and as knowen said just keeping it in valves favor i think will help, also the ads off #1 will help us keep that main sever filling as its more the regs who keep up the rev for that ?

We probably should debate "yet again" what we can do with our #2 TF2 Server, It seems a bit dead on the payload setup  Confused Maybe go back to arena? or just simply try something different? maybe Jump maps? I'm not sure but we can try anything..

Possibly try #2 as a jump server, failing that turn it into a VSH server maybe which did good a while back as mentioned by carlos in original post. MGE mod can be pretty cool aswell. other feedback needed please guys.  Wink

I would love to but I have no idea what is a jump server or VSH or MGE. But for sure we need something even if its not reguler for THG members.
