Where do you live, what ISP do you have, and what's yr ping to THG? Smile

Trying to find the best ISP. I found an ISP called Aquiss who do gaming packages [1] but tbh 20ms-30ms doesn't seem to impressive to me. I guess it's better if you live in the south Smile

i dont know that much about UK ISP, but i'll be in your position in the next month or so (moving to leeds) so maybe i should take a look into it

from looking at the site you linked to... i wouldnt buy anything from them for the following reasons:

1. Most importantly, they give you an allowance of bandwidth? This means that once you have downloaded, for example for "gaming 120" 120gb of data/390gb off peak you're knackerd...

2. have you read the top paragraph there? seems someone got a little trigger happy with their ctrl+v lol

3. each package is only 8Mbps? im on 10Mbps downstream now and i pay around ?15 p/m (im in denmark, but still, prices dont differ that much) and personally i dont think 10 is enough when i move i'll be aiming at least for 20Mbps

It seems that Aquiss are giving the packages away based on the ammount of bandwidth their users will require, which, if you're browsing the net every now and again, picking up e-mails and playing tf2 for a few hours a week thats fine, but do you really want to have to worry about how much you have downloaded as well as the possibility of being restricted as to when you can use the connection? peak/offpeak times ect?

personally i wouldnt even sniff at an ISP that sets bandwidth quotas on your line...

just my two cents, hope it helps

Hey, I'm on Orange 8mb broadband, which serves me fine, but I'm told by friends that my internet is really fast. I think this is because I'm bout a 2 minute walk from the bt phone exchange (orange uses bt phone line). I get a ping of around 40-50, which isn't the best but I use wireless for my gaming pc and I'm a a floor up from my router. so I think if I was plugged into my router my ping would be better. I dunno though. Would that make much difference?

Correctamundo Chiefie, They're currently rolling out a 50Mbit service, unfortunatly they can't offer good customer service so they should probably sort that out first, so if you prefer good customer service don't use them (Although I'm on them!@@!)

Haha.. I was half-way through thinking, "Who the hell says 'Correctamundo'?", when I saw the name. Wb, Luco. MEEDIIIIC!!

Just to stay (partly) on-topic:
O2 Broadband.. works out something stupid like ?7.50 a month, which is why we're on it. How much are you paying for Virgin, Chiefie?

General ping around 20-30ms on the THG servers.
