future Nintendo Wii titles will be shipping with the ability to, well, play themselves. In an interview with USA Today, the man who birthed Mario confirmed the existence of "demo play" for the next Mario game and "future games, too" -- essentially an option to allow the game to play itself when the player encounters an area too difficult for them to handle

The idea behind this, Miyamoto explains, is to reduce the barrier to entry for younger players and casual alike.

Can't really get anymore casual than having the game play itself for you.

Wonder what online play will feel like?

Uhm... always nice if you wanna watch a movie and don't have one I guess xD
Really though... I guess it might help parents deal with whine-y kids who are stuck in their games...

So they remove the "challenge" of the game because people are too stupid to be able to work it out?!

Oh dear... my faith in humanity drops each day...

I wonder if they will add the function to games like Zelda as well... that would be such a good idea! Let's remove the puzzles from an adventure/puzzle game, thinking are for losers anyway =D

Well I suppose it doesn't matter, you don't have to use demo mode and can complete it all yourself if you wish.

I think what people (myself included) are worried about is that over all gaming will be dumbed down. Because casual players might need some pandering.

Although making games sadistically hard might not be a very good idea either.

I wouldn't play TF2 as much as I do if it was as hard as Contra or F-Zero GX.

Yeah or design the game so you only have to hold the forward button... that would be awesome! I would be safe knowing that in the future my kids will be so mentally challenged by what button to press (even when the manual clearly states they only have to press "forward").

I suppose to make it viable they could put in the classic difficulty selection like below:-
Very Hard
Hard
Medium
Easy
Moron/Idiot - Demogame (Tip: Press forward -> )

In conclusion: Man up Nintendo.

PS: Since when has a Mario game ever been hard....?  Laughing
