I honestly don't care, but I also don't see anything bad in voting on crits, if it's possible on this server Smile.

Hi Olshi,

We have had crit votes before and they were not too bad.

However, to stay on matchmaking we have them enabled.

They also allow very new players to experience a "high" and kill a more experienced player just on luck. We are interested in keeping the server as accessible and fun to all players as possible rather then improving competitiveness between the more experienced  players.

Cheers,

K

I understand why random crits are kept on here for the matchmaking and I really don't mind having them on as it does work both ways.  however, I also know that it causes a problem for some players so if a vote can be put on that would be good .....I do suspect for the reasons that klown has said above though, that they will probably stay on. It would be good to see how the vote went though so I do hope there will be input from alot of the regs - at the moment the vote is split evenly between yes/no

That's spot on Klown it is easy to add a vote but is it really needed, also it does effect the game play! Rolling Eyes  Confused

I think random crits are detrimental to all players on the server.

It should be the great teamwork and communication on these servers which decides who wins or loses, not a random element!

Personally, when i get killed by a crit i feel a little frustrated , when i kill with a crit, i feel a little dirty.

Are there any stats on how much players come on the server from matchmaking?

It seems to me it's always the same people, but people i enjoy playing with i must say  Very Happy

Attrition rates of current players means you always want fresh players joining us. Vids like Kaibz's one and match making is the best way to make this happen.

Not being part of matchmaking might not make a difference now but in a years time?

Random crits have no place in TF2 and are a terribly designed mechanic that provide very little other than frustration. They can punish prudent play and reward careless play.

There is no reasonable in-game justification for them, but it is understandable to want to keep them on for matchmaking purposes. Either way I would like to see a crit vote put into place, and if some sort of player decline starts to take effect then we could simply bite the bullet and re-enable them.

Can't reach this link (presumably it's in members only?) could you summarize it please?
Also, I'm assuming everybody saying matchmaking is really meaning quick play?  Matchmaking isn't out yet Smile

Looking at Valves requirements to be listed in quick play (TF2 Quickplay Overview) I don't see any mention of crits.  The tf2 wiki still lists them but may not have been updated since the quick play update happened a while ago as several items on it don't match valve's page.  I presume the crit restriction had to be removed as you can now specify in the advanced quickplay options that you want crits disabled.

As a side note, on the valve page there is a mention of enforcing class limits removing eligibility to be listed in quick play (wiki doesn't).

Edit:  The above is intended to be just a question not a "Hah!  you're wrong!" statement.  I was just wondering if the requirements changed without valve publiscing it very well.

I should probably mention that I don't mind random crits (I'm a solly, my crockets have a contract to say that...)
