At the beginning of 2008 I noticed a particular checkout girl at one of the supermarkets in my hometown. We engaged in conversation a few times and I soon found myself making a bee-line for her till on the few times I would do my grocery shopping there and she was working. After finding out she didn't get anything for Valentine's Day, a small gift was given, though it transpired that she had a boyfriend.

In reality though, it was never about any romantic involvement, and not just because of the age-gap. No, she merely restored my faith in the opposite sex at the tail-end of what had been one hell of a journey. For the longest time, I just thought she was merely being polite and doing her job, yet when she went out of her way to acknowledge me away from the store I then realised the affect this pseudo-friendship was having on me. By way of example, colleagues would notice a change in my general demeanor whenever I had spoken to her while on my way to work.

So, although I am sure that we'll never have a friendship in the true sense of the word, I would somehow just like to state how she has done me the power of good. I hate to acknowledge how easily I have forgotten that at times, when dealing with some perceived crisis or another issue.

After speaking to her on the street this morning, I just got to thinking about the whole situation while at work and wondered if anyone else within the community has ever had a similar experience? It just never ceases to amaze me how much good some people can do without ever knowing. In her eyes, I am a nice guy and that alone does me the power of good. In closing though, I just hope I have posted something worthy of discussion!

Hey Dev,

This is possibly too heavy a discussion for a community that usually discusses whether or not the heavy is made of bacon, or if the pyro's a girl Smile

But it does remind me of these words in this song by this guy, which is great Smile

Yes, I think you're completely correct there! Still, did me good to get it off my chest. So, thanks to everyone that read the original post at least!

By the way, quite an amazing song. Thanks for sharing that with me! I really appreciate it. Smile

In closing though, as if any one is in any kind of doubt, I am a heart-on-my-sleeve kind of guy. However, I also love fragging fellow gamers with the best of them. This will be something you'll soon discover when I am back playing, albeit a little more sensibly!
